The Sandhills

The Sandhills
One Sandhill Crane begins a courtship dance. He will squawk and leap and flap his wings. (The wingspan can be about 7ft across).
I found this chunk of deadfall at the edge of the water. It was full of ants and bore holes, and gum. Once it was dry and I cleared the deadwood, I found the insects had created an incredible sculpture themselves. It looked kind of like a pterodactyl, and as the nearby Sandhills always seemed prehistoric, in their sound and flight, the wood seemed a fitting landscape for this ritual.
